International Award-Winning Great Gray Owl by Michael Knapstein
This image won an Honorable Mention Award in the Lucie Foundation's 11th Annual International Photography Awards in October, 2013. It was selected from among more than 18,000 entries from 104 countries.
Normally not seen in areas this far South, a Great Gray Owl was spotted in Middleton, Wisconsin in March, 2013. These owls are quite elusive and are known as the "Phantom of the North" because they are so seldom seen.
